Psychological First Aid (PFA) Training

As a primary developer of the current accepted version of Psychological First Aid, it is often the central component of training programs. Other core disaster mental health competencies taught include:

  • Cross cultural awareness
  • Knowledge about the needs of special populations
  • Knowledge and skills related to working in large group settings
  • Self-care strategies
  • Understanding substance use and abuse in the context of disaster
  • Team formation considerations

Training programs have been attended by more than 9,000 mental health professionals including: psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, licensed marriage and family therapists, emergency medical technicians, counselors, chaplains, police, fire department personnel, school counselors, substance abuse counselors, occupational therapists, hospital administrators, teachers, and other professionals.
